Someone was asking about SFTP client libraries recently.

Easiest/best way to create an email using local MS Outlook with file attachments?

VFP9SP2 app Customer uses Outlook and wants the app to generate an email to a given email address from the app AND attach certain documents to it. Customer will preview it and then manually hit "Send" on their own. What's the BEST (and hopefully easiest) way to implement this? Invoke Outlook via CREATEOBJECT and set properties and attachments accordingly? Typically in the past I've used MAILTO and ShellExec but this time the extra requirement is to have files attached from the application too, which makes MAILTO not an option, if I understand correctly. tia, --Mike --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus

Well that's interesting. On reboot after the latest update, I now have an icon on my desktop that says Microsoft Teams. That seems sneaky on M$'s part. SQL server connection

Hi, After running my app (VFP 9) on our local network (with a DBC) for many years, we are upgrading it (in stages) to a visual studio app with SQL server back end. I have read many people here talking about using SQL as a back end. At the beginning I will just be accessing the SQL data for reporting purposes but may need to write to it at some point. Looking through the archives some people mentioned SPT and others cursor adapters. Just wondering what people recommend to connect, so I can avoid the usual gotchas. SWFOX Early bird extension and X# Post Conf Session

*Hi again VFPers,* *Not sure who receive the geekgatherings emails, but here goes, sorry if it is a nuisance, but thought since X# is really pushing to have a very workable VFP syntax support ready for SWFOX, it need to be brought to the attention of as much VFPers that still ponders about going...* *XBase greetings,* *Johan * *Early-Bird Registration Extension* We are extending the Early-Bird Registration for Southwest Fox 2019 until August 30th. The early bird gets the worm, or in this case, saves $50! *X# Post Conference Session Details* When: Sunday, October 27, 2019, 2:00 following the Closing session Where: Conference Center, rooms E and F Length: 1.5 to 2.0 hours If you've already registered for the conference and want to attend this session, email *register(a)geekgatherings.com* and we'll add you to the post-conference list. XSharp (X#) is a .NET development language based on the xBase syntax. It is open source and is based on Roslyn, aka the C# compiler. Next to the compiler, X# also provides Visual Studio integration to support most .NET-based applications: Console, Windows Forms, WPF etc. It supports several dialects of the xBase family: Core, Visual Objects, Harbour, xBase++, VFP, etc. It comes with a macro compiler to support runtime evaluation, a Runtime Library and RDDs, and provides runtime components to support dialect-specific classes and functions. X# is a "community driven" project. We build what you, our customers, would like to see. The source for X# is available on GitHub, so you can see what we do and also contribute to the development of the project if you like. The development team originates in the Visual Objects community, so that is why the Visual Objects support is the most developed at this moment. But we are working on expanding the product to the VFP community actively. In this 90 minute post-conference session, we will take you through the migration process of a (simple) Visual FoxPro (VFP) application. We will start with a VFP project and extract its forms, custom controls, menus, reports etc. These will be converted to a Visual Studio Solution, project and source files. We will show you how the code with some modifications will compile and run in Visual Studio. After that we will extend the application with some .NET components. Please remember that the VFP support for X# is "work in progress". Some things are still a little rough and need more work. We will use this session to also discuss with you what YOUR wishes are for the direction of X# for VFP. One example, we have two options for the conversions of VFP forms: 1. We can convert them to standard .NET windows forms or WPF forms. The advantage of this is that everything will work just like in C# and VB and that we can use the built-in editors for forms in Visual Studio. The disadvantage is that some pieces of your existing code will need modifications, especially event handlers. 2. We can create a UI library based on standard .NET forms that will emulate the VFP forms completely. As a result event handlers will "just work". However these forms will be somewhat different from what C# and VB developers are using, and we most likely have to create our own Form designers, that of course would look a lot like the VFP form editor. During the session we will show you approach #1. Approach #2 will need more work on our side (UI library and tools) but some of that work has already done by others, such as Christof Wollenhaupt for Guineu, so we might be able to use some of that. Other (similar) discussions are about SQL access, reporting, which tools we should port, etc. We know that the VFP community has always been very strong. We hope that we can contribute to this community and that together we can help VFP developers to move their applications forward into the world of .NET. Come and join us in this session and help to set the course for the X# VFP support.

Working with multi-page PDF files and automatically labeling and later extracting select pages

Customer has a single PDF ("document") with several pages in it (let's say 12 pages). The document is made up of several scanned files, each a different file type or "component." Customer wants to extract certain pages from this single PDF into later email to other parties. They cannot mail the entire document because some content isn't intended for recipients (like invoices) but they want to be able to send other selected "component" parts and that file attached to the email deliverable would be a SINGLE file. Example: MyPDF.PDF Page 1: Invoice ("A") Page 2-3: Bill of lading ("B") Page 4-6: Fuel slips ("C" Page 7-10: Something else ("D") Page 11-12: Yada yada yada ("E") Eventually, components B, C, and E will be emailed to somebody. I've loved HP Printers but I try to buy Brother printers and have avoided HP computers since Carly Fiorina years ago and her contempt for the American IT worker and her pro-outsourcing position...or at least that's how I saw it. That said...I do love my foreign brothers/sisters and have worked with several over the years and they've been wonderful. No animosity to the people at all.
