Wishing one and all a safe socially-distanced holiday season and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year! -- Ted 'Twas the night before crisis, and all through the house, Not a program was working, not even a browse. The programmers were wrung out, too mindless to care, Knowing chances of shipping hadn't a prayer. The users were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of inquiries danced in their heads. When out in the lobby there arose such a clatter, That I sprang from my cube to see what was the matter. And what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a SUPER PROGRAMMER, oblivious to fear. More rapid than eagles, his programs they came, And he whistled and shouted and called them by name: On Update! On Add! On Inquiry! On Delete! On Batch Jobs! On Closing! On Functions Complete! His eyes were glazed over, his fingers were lean, >From weekends and nights in front of the screen. A wink of his eye, and a twist of his head, Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, Turning specs into code, then he turned with a jerk. And laying his finger on the ENTER key, The system came up, and worked perfectly. The updates, updated; the deletes, they deleted; The inquiries, inquired; and the closing completed. He tested each whistle, he tested each bell, With nary an abend, and all had gone well. The system was finished, the tests were concluded, The client's last changes were even included! Error 108 - File is in use by another user on INSERT INTO line

VFP9SP2 - Citrix/VMWare server, Win10 desktop image on client My error handling tripped on this simple line: INSERT INTO broker!doclinks (ifileid,idoctypeid,crange) VALUES (thisform.oFile.iid,liDocTypeID,ALLTRIM(loObj.txtRange.value)) VFP Help says this about Error 108: Visual FoxPro 9.0 SP2 File is in use by another user (Error 108) You have attempted a USE, DELETE, or RENAME command on a file that is being used by another user on a network. I don't see why this line of code would throw an Error 108. I guess I'll add a simple TRY/CATCH around it to retry it "N" number of times (via DO WHILE loop with flag and counter), but tossing this out to the group for your thoughts. ParallelFox - anyone using it in production?

I have a customer who runs a process which is essentially chugging through a huge DBF and doing some processing for each record. This is taking quite a while on their hardware, like hours. It struck me that this is an ideal application for parallelism. So I've knocked up a quick test that uses ParalleFox with each worker processing a chunk of the DBF file. It seems to work fine. Hi Mike, see HELP for SET TABLEVALIDATE. Hi Mike, Maybe, when compiling the EXE you are not saving tot he project folder? Always (!) save your exe to the project-root folder. DO FORM <formname> errors saying that the form is not found. Makes no sense to me. MDI window theme github issue

Hello everyone, My coworker found this and shared it with me today. I have tested to see VFP apps correctly show the MDI form with a theme in Windows Server 2012. If you have a github account and would like to vote this up. I say thank you! https://github.com/dotnet/winforms/issues/3691 It's not just a Winforms issue, it's a Windows base code issue. SourceSafe from within Foxpro

I wonder if anyone can help please with what may be a simple problem. I'm trying to use VSS (Visual SourceSafe) with VFP (Visual Foxpro) on my Windows 10 PC with a local VSS database on my D drive, i.e. not on a network drive. I have done this many times the past and it is an excellent way to keep track of changes between versions. This works fine on a PC at the location of a client who I support, which runs XP. Also, on my own Windows 10 PC, VSS works perfectly from the VSS application, but when I try to access it from VFP I get "database XXX does not exist". I've tried creating a new database but to no avail. The srcsafe.ini file is in the VSS folder, so I can't understand what might be the problem. Could it be an issue with Windows 10? Any pointers would be hugely appreciated! Martin
