Easy peasey. Came across the name of this tool which I'd never heard of - apparently it was an early 90's dBase-compatible system from Wordtech which I believe Borland then bought. My recollection is that Arago bought dbXL, which was the system I used before I got into VFP. At the time when I was using dbXL, if you wanted the ability to compile your code into an executable, you had to buy the separate Arago compiler. This would produce, unlike VFP, which is an "interpreted" language, a fully self-contained executable with no dependencies. However, there were significant differences in behavior between the uncompiled code as run in the dbXL command window, and the compiled executable, especially with regard to processing of keystrokes and with the display of higher-order ASCII "box" characters. I had to do a search-and-replace routine on my code to deal with those issues every time I wanted to compile a version. dbXL became unusable as a result of the millenium, because it stored dates containing two-digit years in its version of dbf files every time those files were opened. It was an excellent system in its time though, and it had a fantastic help manual which enabled me to teach myself how to use it. dbXL contained no report engine. At the recommendation of a consultant, I bought the Focus Report Writer, but because its manual, unlike that of dbXL, basically sucked, I wasn't able to figure out how to use it. I've enjoyed using LMI Pro for years. VERY convenient. I'll probably still pay it, but wanted to poll the community here to see if anyone is using something else and loving that as much or better than LMI. I do NOT want to go down the VNC/UltraVNC/etc-VNC variants that aren't as user-friendly as LMI. tia! --Mike

[NF] Software recommendations: Sharing photo album for comments & ID?

I'm looking for a web-based photo album I can share with a few friends and relatives in order to ID folks in a photo album from the 1940s I'm digitizing. I'm not comfortable with posting them to Facebook, but I like the style of ID'ing faces it uses. Ideally, I'd limit access to a list of folks who could comment and download but not delete. My step-son has a yahoo account. He showed me that now they're simply using an app on his phone to confirm his intention to log in instead of requiring a password. Seems like a great simple idea to me that may become the defacto standard for others in the future. No more trying to remember gazillion passwords...just confirm with your phone app! (Yes, I realize not everyone has smart phones, so there will have to be an alternative for those folks.)
