Apparently this doesn't work anymore when clicking on the ProFox Email List (under Community in the Task Pane startup): https://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox Who do we contact to fix that? (Or is it too late since they turned off the lights in Redmond for the VFP team?)

Trying to create shortcut text

My days are filled with T-SQL coding now, so I wanted to create a shortcut key sequence to insert the [dbo] in front of things when needed. This doesn't work: ON KEY LABEL KEYBOARD "[dbo]." Ideas? tia.

Scope Resolution ::

Wow...got a tip from my boss to subclass something and use the Scope Resolution operator to call the parent class. At first, I was skeptical as I thought it was kinda kludgey, as the last time I saw :: code 15+ years ago, I was like "what the heck is that?" but after implementing it today, that is one super awesome feature. Been doing VFP since 1999 and loved that today, I've increased my knowledge in VFP land and love it even more. You're never too old to learn something new. (I'm only 46) :-)

Don't remember seeing this mentioned here before but it looks interesting. https://www.xsharp.info/forum You may have heard of Vulcan.NET which is an xBase language in more of the Clipper vein and which supports Visual Objects projects. Anyway the consensus among developers is that Vulcan.NET is dying or dead, and so some of the developers have struck out on their own to implement an open-source .NET implementation of xBase. "In April 2015 a group of concerned customers and some members of the GrafX development team have talked about starting a new open source project to give the xBase language for .NET a new future. This initiative is called XSharp. This was partially inspired by the fact that Microsoft has published the source code to its C# and Visual Basic compilers under an open source license (.NET Compiler Platform "Roslyn"[1]). The plan is to create a new development language (compiler, runtime libraties, IDE, tools) where the compiler is partially based on the Roslyn source code." While it will initially support Vulcan\Clipper\VO type syntax (which is in the VFP ballpark but not identical) they also intend to support VFP syntax next. I would imagine it would be core VFP syntax, dropping all the legacy stuff like @ .. SAY and defunct SYS() functions and so forth. I *think* they intend to support DBF files natively. AT 78+ AND STILL MOTORING, NOW ON WIN 10, WITH VFP 5.0, SOMETIMES COMPILING ON WIN 2K OR XP, I FEEL THE NEED FOR SPEED, OR AT LEAST A LITTLE TIME WITH VFP 9.0 SP2, BEFORE I DIE. IS THERE ONE OUT THERE FOR SALE? 5.0 SEEMS TO GIVE WIN 10 REGISTRY A BAD TUMMY ACHE. SQL Variable Substitution

Hello: I have never bothered with variable substitution in SQL statements. My tables are local. It did not seem to quite fit, and there is my second question below. However, I have two issues. I have a lot of cases where I have multiple options for which the end user might only select some of them. On one report that I am currently updating for other reasons, there are three: date low, date high, and client. All of these are optional. I could write for the eight cases select * from catx ... select * from catx where trndate>=?datelow ... select * from catx where trndate<=?datehigh ... select * from catx where trndate>=?datelow and trndate<=?datehigh ... select * from catx where clcode=?theclcode ... select * from catx where trndate>=?datelow and clcode=?theclcode ... select * from catx where trndate<=?datehigh and clcode=?theclcode ... select * from catx where trndate>=?datelow and trndate<=?datehigh and clcode=?theclcode ... and this will work, but this would not be practical in cases where there are more optional variables. One report has five. To get around this, I build the expression as in this example: * Build where expression. local thewhere thewhere="" thewhere=thewhere+"trndate>=?this.datelow and trndate<=?this.datehigh" if !empty(this.theclcode) thewhere=thewhere+" and clcode=?this.theclcode" endif * Get Possible Transactions SQLSEL * from catx; where &thewhere; into cursor rawdata readwrite nofilter My first question is whether this is safe from a SQL injection attack. It appears so, but I may be overlooking something. My second question is whether it is possible to have this sort of protection for other statements. I use browses, and the substitution does not work there, that is browse for clcode=?theclcode does not work. (Missing operand error) With browses, I have some with even more optional values. One has twelve. 4096 different versions of a statement is really too much. If I do it for one (SQL), I want to do it for the other (browses). Sincerely, Gene Wirchenko
