What good it will do you depends on how you can relate it back to your VFP tables of course. Charlie's recent post made me think of some buzzwords in Tech over the years that just made a person either laugh, cringe, roll-their-eyes, or some combination thereof. I thought it'd be fun to list some tech buzzwords over the years in this thread. The CIO at my gig from 1999-2002 loved to use the word "synergy." Is there an equivalent to the VFP recno() function in T-SQL? I'd like to create the following select statement in T-SQL: select recno(),otherfields..... from database.dbo.table If there is not, what would be a substitute? [NF] Question to our UK & EU members

I heard yesterday in a meeting about a need of/for data separation for UK business and EU. Nobody knew anything past that vague phrase. Can someone shed any light on this for me? I am defining SQL Storage and I thought that I heard that some data cannot leave either the UK or the EU and come back home to our HQ in the USA. We have a UK plant that ships to some partners in the EU as well as the local ones in the UK. You can message me privately or post to the group about this. I was amazed what kind of power I could find in PHP or Python or Ruby. Next year, I celebrate (?) the 40th anniversary of shipping my first commercial application. I have rewritten several applications from FPD to VFP, and from VFP to PHP or Rails, and there is always undocumented behavior that turns out to be key to the application, and very complex and time-consuming to backfill into the new application when it is discovered late in the process. It's also essential that at least some of the developers have expertise both in the old language and the new one. In one case I had to explain to a client that the textbook-perfect description of the algorithm they provided me with was all very nice, but it wasn't actually how their FoxBase system had been running for the past 15 years. It's hard to tie out new results with old results when they do different math. And persnickety things like precision and rounding rules as you switch front-end languages and back-end storage make that tougher than some imagine. But, as someone recently pointed out in another thread, it is also hard to do "blank slate" development where the client *thinks* they know what they want, but invariably, it is something else they need. In the best of all worlds, you need a full specification on what the software does, and a set of tests to show 100% compliance, and it is almost impossible to produce, until you've written the system. Clients may understand how their business works, but managers view their world through the 90% case and skim over the exceptions, while front-line workers deal with the exceptions all day and miss the big picture. In sum, software development is *hard*. In reality, a slow, deliberate, iterative system of incrementally building a new system from the old is the only thing I've ever seen succeed. It's hard, it's more expensive and it takes more time that anyone wants it to, but the end result can be an application the client can run with, expand their business, and compete successfully for the next 20 years.

Strange problems with post to profox not showing up. Possibly something with Gmail deleting the message because it thinks its a duplicate of the send email. I tried changing some Gmail settings. Let's see if I get this email...

Checkbox Problem

I have a checkbox in a grid. The column and the checkbox control source are both set to the same field in the table. The table is open in the data environment with BufferModeOverride set to 5, optimistic table buffering. If I put the TableUpdate command in the InteractiveChange method of the checkbox any change is not committed but if I put the identical code in a button instead then the change is committed. Is anyone here using AWS on the backend of their VFP app? Searching the ProFox archives, I noticed this recent thread in the past year: https://leafe.com/archives/full_thread/508558 Currently I use a MySQL (MariaDB) database from my ISP but wondered about AWS since we use that at my corporate daytime gig.
