[NF] INT vs MEDIUMINT vs SMALLINT vs TINYINT

Ok, in today's "the sky is the limit" (in terms of space), do we really care about 1 or 2 bytes for an integer field type for a primary key? I'm redesigning FabMate Classic to use a MySQL (MariaDB) database backend now because my client is still experiencing problems with the VFP database (index problems, etc.). His network guy (as usual) says everything on the Windows Server 2016 network is fine and the problems only started when they upgraded the client workstations from Win7 to Win10. Whatever. This thread is about primary key size WHEN YOU KNOW THAT THE MAX VALUE WON'T GO OVER (whatever the limit is at each field type: 255 for tinyint, etc.) The OCD part of me wants to define the smallest type possible, whereas the "let's set it and never worry about it" part of me says "just make everything INT." Weigh in on your thoughts on which type you'd use. tia, --Mike

FoxPro DevCon in Frankfurt

Hi guys, just a shameless marketing towards the 24th FoxPro DevCon in Frankfurt, with english sessions from Tamar Granor, Doug Hennig and Rick Schummer! Especially interesting will be Dougs newest thing: a complete rewrite of VFPs Project Manager, which is then called Project Explorer. Rafael, as soon as you got your SQL-Query from the Server it will be in a cursor at your VFP client. Therefor that cursor indeed has a recno(), and that's what Andy is talking about. [NF] Customer asking for (preferably free) unattended remote access software so she can access her work machine from home

Customer is a small business and NOT tech savvy at all (so don't suggest "UltraVNC configured oh so cool!"). I warned her you get what you pay for many times, but said I'd research it. I use TeamViewer and it's great for me but overkill for her. TV has a free license but the wording appears to be such that it's for accessing your personal home computer from work (not the other direction). LogMeIn (as we've noted here) kept jacking up prices, and they have no more free version. I've got a question into gotomypc.com to see if unattended access is an option for their product (although it's not free either). I have no problem telling a client that free isn't possible but I did say I'd check first. GotoMyPC's pricing isn't bad for the single user if she can use it in unattended access mode: https://get.gotomypc.com/plansandpricing Other suggestions based on your experience? VFP, Authorize.net

A friend of mine sent the following question, and I don't know the answer. Does anyone know off the top of their head? "I have a VFP question if you do not mind. I have a client with an old custom app in VFP 7 and 9. They process credit cards using Authorize.net. Authorize.net is pushing everyone to a new API and I am tasked with migrating the client’s apps so they can use this new API (https://developer.authorize.net/api/reference/index.html) Currently they use HTTP Posts to send in the CC info. Anyway, my question is this. Authorize offers a development kit and example code using C#. Therefore it should be .Net compliant and wouldn’t that mean I could use the same in a VFP application?"
