Google API for Geocoding ... Again

Fellow Gentlemen, I posted a request about doing geocoding requests to receive back a Lat/Long dataset for various addresses a few weeks ago and now find that Google do in fact provide a Geocoding service: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/geocoding/start The responses back from the requests are all JSON from a Java Script API run by Google. I have looked over Rick's Westwind site to try and get a start on using this method to get back a JSON response but seem to be getting nowhere fast. Anyone got any ideas on a simple & neat way of retrieving this data back using VFP programmatically? Either that or anyone know a free Geocoding site that would handle up to 100 name and address calls per day ideally by sending a text file and receiving one back which could be automated from the VFP end. Never even looked at Web services in anger before so it all seems a little baffling and terribly long winded at the moment unless I am missing something obvious. Note I don't want to have to drop into an intermediate program/language to accomplish this, if possible. Dave

Questions About Some VFP Data Types

Hello: I finished all of my boss's requests for the moment, and now, I am back working on my grid replacement. Some day, maybe, I will have one. I am curious about some VFP data types. What exactly are they? For each of them, is the data type ever used as a table or cursor's column data type or as the type of an input control's data value? For some, I have another question. G: General I understand this type should be avoided. Is it of any use these days? O: Object No additional question. S: Screen What is this type? B: Blob No additional question. VFP file types in explorer

Hi all In Windows explorer, files with a VCX extension are displayed as type Microsoft Visual FoxPro Class Library but VCT and PRG just display as VCT File and PRG File respectfully. How can I get them to be recognised as types Microsoft Visual FoxPro Class Library and Microsoft Visual FoxPro Program respectfully? Many thanks in advance Paul Newton

Reading emails from a VFP app and creating "tickets" based on them

VFP9SP2, Network Solutions web email account We've got a clunky manual process here at the Corporate gig whereby we have an Excel file we track customer interactions, and several of those interactions come from incoming email. Boss wants solution that auto-creates tickets based on incoming emails to that web mail account. Currently, it's just manual adding into Excel by help desk staff. Anyone ever do that? (I personally use ZenDesk for my MBSS clients, and I love it, but not sure if that's an option here at the Corporate gig or not. Probably not since it's not a budgeted expense--although it's dirt cheap imo!!!) tia, --Mike

Error with Thor's PEMEditor app

VFP9SP2, latest version of PEMEditor, It's weird. On my home dev machine, I have no problems at all, but on my corporate gig laptop, whenever I add a property or method using PEMEditor, I get this error every time (https://www.screencast.com/t/jGjInCmNtCk) although it continues after I press ignore and the Prop/Meth is added successfully. Anybody else experience this? tia, --Mike

ON KEY usage in your apps

VFP9SP2 on Win7/8/10 pcs I really never fully took advantage of this gem in VFP. In my apps, I haven't allowed editing in grids in probably 14 years. Some of my users seem to want that though so I'm thinking of allowing such ability now. I was thinking of using ON KEY to pop up a lookup form to add data records to the grids (instead of that native whatever way of doing an APPEND blank in the native VFP grid). In the past, I've really just used ON KEY to pop up the help file on demand. In what other ways have you used ON KEY in your designs? tia, --Mike
