I knew this rang a bell and I managed to find an email I got a while back about another person with a similar issue, it might help: *Windows 2012R2 and slow VFP (Visual FoxPro database) applications* We recently had a customer where we implemented a Windows 2012R2, Citrix XenApp 7.5 environment to replace a Windows Vista/2008 client server environment. After implementing the new Citrix XenApp environment the customer found a strange phenomenon where several applications where performing slower on the new XenApp servers then on the Vista workstations.When we ran several tests on the environment and found that on a server with only the OS installed the applications worked fine. But after installing the terminal server environment and the applications the applications that where using FoxPro databases (e.g. Accountview, Caseware etc.) where running significantly slower andcrashing more often than on the old Vista workstation environment when performing specific functions inside the applications.The customer then did a installer by installer implementation of the Citrix server while testing the application after each installer. During this time consuming test they found out that after the installation of the Citrix VDA agent the problem began and we could remove the VDA agent but the problem would still persist.We then started calling Citrix and the application vendors to solve this issue and after a while we found that the problem occurs when during the VDA installation the Terminal Services role is installed. During the installation there is a settings called Disk enablefairshare that is set in the registry [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\T- SFairShare\Disk\EnableFairShare] this has a setting of 1.disable fair disk share usage This settings allows Windows to normalize Disk I/O for users so they all have their fair share of the resources. This is what caused the problem because the FoxPro applications require a lot of disk I/O to perform and will immediatly cause issues when they don’t receive data at a fast enough rate.After changing the value to 0 the environment performed as espected! [NF] Export video to DVD

A friend's granddaughter has made a video of her 70th birthday as a .MOV file. She would like to convert it to DVD format to play on a DVD player and has asked my help. As it is a one-off job I'm reluctant to buy a pro package, can anyone recommend a suitable free app to convert it? It doesn't need editing. Thanks John John Weller 01380 723235 07976 393631

FoxInCloud -- new project (not a conversion)

Hi Thierry, I'd like to create a brand new simple demo project using FoxInCloud. This would be totally new, and not a conversion of anything. How should I proceed, and how long of a trial period do I have? I'm hoping this is as simple as me writing some simple screen and launching it inside the browser. My colleague and I are going to be servicing a large chain of franchisees soon and I wanted to have an online ticket system where they could submit tickets and see the status/history of their tickets as well. His investigation turned up some but they were either too complex (not user friendly) or buggy. I was thinking I'd create some simple VFP screens and use Thierry Nivelet's FoxInCloud to make it a web app, but I also wanted to poll the group to see what other options are out there that folks have good things to relate. Data collection: - franchisee number/location - user - date - ticket ID - category - sub-category - priority - notes - tech assigned Obviously there's a parent-child relationship with the date and tracking history, but you get the idea. It also won't edit existing records, only create new child records in one particular table. If the expected parent record is not found, all of the to-be-created child records for that parent will be skipped. I think most of the time will go to very extensive validation to get a list (cursor or array) of records that will actually be inserted. As noted, the validation will have to include queries to find the parent records. I will also have to do queries to see if the child records have already been added (I can envision someone trying to import the same sheet more than once). I don't think those queries should pose much of a problem since they are read, not write, operations. Those would all be done prior to beginning the insertion process. I'm going to require that the spreadsheet be saved in csv format to eliminate vagaries associated with xlsx and xlsx converted to xls. I'm told that the spreadsheet wizards around here are pretty familiar with that requirement. So I feel pretty confident that this isn't going to disrupt anything seriously. Thanks again. VFP & Server 2012

Hi All I have read through previous posts on this subject, but the more I read the more confused I get as to what advice I should be following. We have a situation where speed issues are affecting a VFP application. The data is held on a Server 2012 server. Previously we have be told to disable SMB2 etc, but it seems now that this shouldn't be an issue. I have now found mentions of a SMB2 registry setting along the lines of the OPLOCKS thing years ago. This setting is DisableLeasing, has anyone else faced similar issues and/or used this DisableLeasing option to improve application performance?
