I was wondering if anybody new of a Table Comparison utility. I wrote a Fox2x utility a while back that compares two folders and generates reports on structure & index differences (i.e. Filename, Field Name, Field Type, Field Width, Error, where Error could be Field not found in Source or Field Width not equal, etc.). It doesn't work for VFP Tables as of yet and don't have time to debug it as I'm working on a deadline.

There are a couple in the Leafe.com downloads section.
Thanks Alan, I was able to get CompTabs to work by Stephen Weeks after a few tweaks.

Sure. It may have something to do with comparing data on mapped drives, but not sure. When I moved the two data folders and the exe to the C Drive, it worked great. I could snap a screen shot of the debugger at the state in which it errors, but I can't recall what upload site profox users use for image URLs. If anyone can let me know that would be great.
The error is "Invalid path or file name" on line CD "&LAUNCHDIR" in container1 click method.

Hi Richard,
I think i get the problem, I always compare tables between the source code on my c drive and the mapped drive to the server, never from one mapped drive to another.
Perhaps LAUNCHDIR should be set to sys(5)+sys(2003) instead of curdir() ?
I will check this ... thanks !

Richard,
Seeing the value of LaunchDir, one thing VFP does when it CD's into a directory ( SET DEFAULT TO also) is reads the folder above it to verify the folder you are heading to exists. I had a lot of trouble with some customers for a while.
If you were to CD to a folder below the Share "\COMPARES\COMPTABS\workingfolder" you would have better success. Some of our customers noticed a performance increase when we got them changed over.

Hi Stephen, Thanks for uploading current version. This will be a fantastic tool for my toolbox. I gave it a go and here's my 1st run results below. Note the last VFP Error, which could be attempting to change folders back to pcCurrentDirectory, but failed. May I ask why you did DELETE ALL and PACK rather than just using ZAP?

Zap doesn't fire any delete triggers that there might be in the database, that's one difference.
Richard, Not a solution but a quick point. Instead of using CD "&LAUNCHDIR" use cd (LAUNCHDIR) as it is quicker and also allows for spaces or delimiter characters in the path name.

If you use Beyond Compare, there is a fantastic add-on by Frank Perez called VFP2Text.
http://pfsolutions-mi.com/Product/VFP2Text
For tables, it compares the column structures, indexes, code pages, triggers (all in the beginning of the compare). Then it compares records and data values in the columns.
Also works on all the other binary source files like forms, class libraries, reports, labels, menus, projects, and database containers. I use this add-on numerous times a week.
It should be a commercial tool, but Frank is generous and makes it available for free. Yes, you have to purchase Beyond Compare, but it is a steal for $50.

I liked it so much, I bought a copy for everyone in the company!

Hi Fernando,
It is nice to be mixed up with Doug. I take it as a high compliment. FoxBin2Prg is another fine tool for this I guess, but I use Beyond Compare to do the file and folder comparisons and it has VFP2Text already built in now for years. Just part of the automatic processes I use to compare files whether VFP source or something else. No fuss, no muss.
Like Ted, every developer in our company has a license and we all love and rely on VFP2Text, and the great thing: if we want an enhancement, we ask our team mate Frank if he will make it for us. <g>

Hey Rick, why didn't you mention FoxBin2Prg for this task? You know well this tool, even you have coded part of DBF data exporting!
Warm regards :D

I've been a fan of Beyond Compare ever since stumbling across it a few years ago. VFP2Text is a fantastic add-on. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Richard:
If you want to Diff DBF structures as this example:

then FoxBin2Prg may be useful for you.
Best Regards.-
