A friend's granddaughter has made a video of her 70th birthday as a .MOV file. She would like to convert it to DVD format to play on a DVD player and has asked my help. As it is a one-off job I'm reluctant to buy a pro package, can anyone recommend a suitable free app to convert it? It doesn't need editing.
Thanks

I was going to suggest Handbrake too but I don't think it can be used to create DVDs, only rip from them. I guess you could use Handbrake to create a DVD compliant video but you would still need another app to master it.
Thanks Alan. Unfortunately one of the few things that handbrake doesn't do is create a DVD :-)

What OS are you trying to create it with? I wanted to do something similar on my home machine and when I checked my windows 7 (32 bit) I found it came with a DVD creator as standard. I could start a new DVD video project and add a few AVI's to it and the project converted it and burned the DVD. My windows 7 at work comes with what looks like just a DVD player.

I'm using the latest version of Win 10. The annoying thing is that Movie Maker used to do an excellent job and I also have a copy of Pinnacle Studio 15 which no longer works properly - damn M$!

John, You can download Moviemaker from Microsoft even though it isn't a standard feature in 10 - in fact it wasn't in 7 after SP2 either.

Thanks Dave, when I downloaded it the free version wouldn't produce a DVD but combined with Express Burn it will do all I need.

I take that back - it won't allow me to save in the trial version! I've found one that will however, Lightworks. Not as intuitive as MovieMaker but looks OK.

You could also try CD burner XP. One we have used at work with good results. Also works on 7, 8 and 10.

+1 on the CDBurnerXP. Been using that product for years now and I love it. Haven't used it to create Video DVD's; I use it mostly for ISO creation and burning data discs. This software combined with Virtual CloneDrive and some NAS storage will change your life when it comes to detailing with software CD's and DVD's

"One Microsoft Way"
If you have a friend with a Mac, I'm pretty sure iMovie and iDVD will do what you want.
No other OS vendor of course has ever removed a fairly rarely-used piece of software.

With all due respect, Alan, I think you're mistaken there. In fact, some operating system vendors have gotten into legal trouble for bundling applications tied to their OS, if I'm not mistaken.
