There was an interesting talk on the BBC yesterday on the recent internet ransom attacks. I didn't hear the talk myself but a friend told me about it. One of the interviewees was from Europol's European Cybercrime Centre and he recommended their website
https://www.nomoreransom.org/about-the-project.html
which has decryption tools for a number of recent viruses.
Could be useful.

Great resource, and thanks for sharing.
I thought the most recent wave was unusual in several ways.
1. It appears that payment wasn't well-thought out nor complete, and perhaps wasn't the primary reason.
2. It started in Ukraine, which is certainly the center of a lot of turmoil these days.
3. So far, there doesn't seem to be a flaw in the encryption, so with the payment portal turned off, folks whose machines were encrypted are out of luck with no chance of recovery. Hope they had a good off-line backup!

Did not mark this post as OT as he mentioned "FOXPRO" ! :)

It's so refreshing to hear anyone, let alone a 13 yr old kid, speak so articulately these days. The mentions of FoxPro are at 3:47 and 4:13. Maybe he can be the keynote speaker at SWFox this year??

Hi Eric,
If we invited this kid, Dave Bernard might be upset since he is the scheduled keynoter. <g>

I would be more amazed if this programming genius could build Visual Foxpro compatible from the ground up and make all our old programs work naturally. Meow.... >@.@<
It happened to Clipper the xBase compiler, called the Harbor Project. But VFP is a lot more complicated and came with a Rushmore database engine. :)

Watch out he might say "FoxPro" is that easy stuff I did when I first studied the history of programming from my dad.
It appears that he has o good focus on what is in use today. https://www.ibm.com/blogs/bluemix/2016/09/experience-mentoring-tanmay-bakshi...

WOW! Great kid!
Honestly, the kid kinda made me feel stupid when he said he started programming at 5 with "simple languages like Foxpro."
I've been programming in FoxPro for over 25 years and I'm still finding new stuff to learn about it.
I guess if the shoe fits...:)

Paul, now you have to tell us all about how you are crafting AI into your systems today.

I, apparently, AM artificial intelligence when measured against this kid.
So, technically all of my software is crafted with AI. :)
But seriously, I, ummm...used soundex() one time?

I suspect this kid is using the meaning of 'AI' that seems to be rife in technical articles and lazy journalism at the minute, fed by every company out there wanting to jump on this year's hype bandwagon.
In other words maybe a bit of pattern recognition if you're lucky.
+1 - I'd be interested to know how this kid's work scores in a Turing Test.
Not saying the kid isn't smart, but a lot of his answers were mostly buzzwords but that could just have been the venue and he could have been dumbing it down for the show.
