Hi Tracy,
Data stored in DBFs is most likely the limiting factor. Possible scenarios are:
1. switch to SQL, then rewrite into a new environment later
2. rewrite into a new environment, bring the use of DBFs into the new environment (perhaps not supported)
3. rewrite into new environment, converting data to SQL (or whatever) at the same time as the new environment goes live
It seems that #3 would be the best, but probably requires the most resource and is the most risky. If #2 isn't possible, do #1. #2 seems like it would be creating a new problem along the way.

I am using TreePad Lite as notes taking program.
Never used EverNote!
OneNote got OCR, if I remember correctly. And I have never attempted it.

Hi Tracy,
Sorry, I made a typo in my earlier post...
The summary comment should read:
It seems that #3 would be the best...is the most risky. if ** #3 ** isn't possible, do #1. #2 seems like...
I wouldn't do #2 unless absolutely necessary.|| ||

I don't use the Data Environment in VFP. Never needed to, not a good idea to.
In all the companies I worked for, they have never used DE.

DataEnvironment is just a way to automate table/view commands.
CursorAdapter is a nice way to move from DBF to SQL, as most CRUD operations can be either set by properties and/or by code. Using a dataEnvironment makes CursorAdapter integration easier.

One of our clients has asked us to move an existing VFP app from DBF to SQLserver.
We plan to write a utility that will scan the whole project (programs + database), will create one cursor adapter class per SQL instruction met, and replace SQL instruction by cursorAdapter instantiation and/or call a method of an existing cursorAdapter.
We’ll also write a complete upsize routine (that will probably enhance VFPx's upsizing wizard) so that we can migrate the data over and over until the whole data + code is OK in SQL.
Of course we’ll have a test app running side by side with the production app.
DBF to cursorAdapter will be a VFPx project.
