Yup - if you can believe (which I am sure you folks can - since Uni's at time tend to be a bit behind in Tech.) - they actually have a job opening with FoxPro being the core of the job. Just finished doing a Skype interview with 4 people. Was actually kinda fun!
They will probably be contacting me for the next phase. In which they also let me know I will be doing a kind of programming test - then a 2nd interview.
At this point - I kinda figure that they will Have to progress to the next step with me!
Just figured some of you folks might find this tidbit of info. interesting!

Yes, best wishes! What would the job title be? A professor teaching "Database Fundamentals 101" or "Database Applications Made Easy with VFP" ????
:-)
HA ha - Nice one Mike!
Nope - its mainly FoxPro dev. in a logistics type dept. w/in UCLA. Downside - pay is TERRIBLE!!! Its a tad more than 1/2 my last salary! Ugh...
I can't believe they want someone with Exp. - serious VFP/FoxPro exp. - yet, only want to pay 60K! Although, I hear this is common in Uni's!

Well, 60k in California is probably like 30k elsewhere, so sorry to hear that but at least you'll be working with a tool you love!
Love is a Pretty strong word there Mike! Although - the people interviewing me might agree with you.
I used to tell people - when they say they love some "thing" - that you can't love an inanimate object!
Sure - I have Solid Long time exp. w/The Fox! Done a Ton of work w/The Fox. So - yeah, a job working w/The Fox - its comfortable coming back to that kind of Code base & Dev. environ.!

Kurt,
It might not hurt to point out to them that there aren't many VFP developers available (certainly not good ones) and that they may find that they need to adjust the pay or not be able to find anyone.
You might try to get some idea of how hard it's been for them to find someone and, if so, consider discussing salary when they offer you the job...
Anyway, hope it all works out for you!

Watch out for the "Fix what is wrong in this app." They may be hiring because nobody can figure out what it does for the U. Pasadena? I haven't been there since 1999 doing an app for a tire company.

Nah. The current sole-dev guy was in the interview. And, it actually went well. Was actually kinda fun - even though it was 4 different people on the other end of the Skype call. I just KNOW they will contact me for the next step - which will be a programming test - and then 2nd interview. I could tell be the reactions from ALL of them - that they were indeed impressed by me. I even seemed to make it thru the tough question - re:why I was "Let go" from last job...

True.
Although, right now - starting tomorrow - I will be doing Two Part time jobs.
1 - Teaching young kids - only 4 Hrs/Wk.
2 - Working at a Bird Hotel - cleaning cages, feeding birds, interacting w/Birds (ALL Parrots - and most of them Talk), and maybe some interacting w/customers.
But, yeah - fulltime w/Bene's would be great. And, working on a college campus would be Awesome. And, I will get involved with oncampus maker space. And, possibly also try to work with some engineering students to try and bring some of my product design concepts to life(one I had in mind is a kind of specialized robot).
So - all of that WOULD be the Upside to working at UCLA. And, hopefully, I can do other stuff - like my 3D Printing and potential product designs - to help me make more money on the side - to allow me to survive better!

OMG! First, I saw your reply, and, I was like - wait, didn't I saw what the jobs were? Then, when I looked back at what I wrote - the details were slim on the teaching stuff. As for the Bird Hotel - I may be looking at potentially doing some 3D Printed stuff. But, the job itself is really about cleaning bird cages & the floor & feeding birds - and some interactions with the birds.
AS for the teaching. 2 of the classes are actually 3DP related, although its really about teaching 3D CG. At this point, I've been showing them Sculptris. You should try it.
So - am thrilled to hear you are now Joining the Fold of the 3DP world! What 3DP are you using???

I've been thinking about buying a 3D printers for years but could not justify the money. Then the Ender 3 arrived at $200.
And - that's actually a good option for a Newbie! But, FYI - you have to build it. Not complicated and NOT a lot of parts to assemble. But, will take a bit longer for a newbie...

OK - I know this is getting a bit OT - as its diverging away from FoxPro - but, here goes nothing...
Paul - did you get the Ender yet?
Before you do - if you have not - you should listen to a couple of these Podcasts. A guy I know, on a major 3DP forum - he does a Podcast with this buddy of his. Its VERY Entertaining - as well as it can be very enlightening. I don't really know much about the Ender3 - except from what I heard his podcast. So - you should Seriously listen to it. Here's one episode where they talk about the Ender3 - its the 2nd segment(3 main segments - and there's a news type intro.):

That's the intro about the Ender3. And, these 2 dudes have worked with a TON of 3DP's - including making TONS of Mod's! Its pretty crazy. The next link is the Unboxing of the 3DP:
http://threedprintingtoday.libsyn.com/255_3dprinting_today
Then, this 3rd ep. is about the operation of the 3DP:
http://threedprintingtoday.libsyn.com/256_3dprinting_today
Each time - its the 2nd segment where they talk about this particular 3DP. And, if you DO listen - I love to hear your thoughts about the Podcast - if you enjoy them. I started listening during my Westward journey across the USA - and I've been hooked on the podcast ever since!
Oh - and on a side note - although more related to this original thread. I just had a phone interview with this guy at this 3DP co. here in Palo Alto - and they are doing some Insanely cool 3DP work. Building experimental specialized 3DP tech. - as well as doing Materials science tech for new special materials. I think I may have a good shot at this job!

Yes, since early December or so.
I've already done some mods.
Replaced the main board with a MKS Gen L. Not finalised, wiring is messy but everything is working.
I have the following waiting to install: - Replacement stepper drivers (quieter/smoother) - Metal Extruder (stock is plastic) - Auto bed leveling sensor (cheapo one, we'll see how good it is!)
I'll take a listen to those podcasts thanks!
