For some reason my VFP Help file will not load. When you select help it goes into the "indexing for the first time" and never returns, requiring task manager to stop the process.
Loading up the help chm by clicking on it does the same thing but immediately finishes the index and loads fine.
I have tried updating the help with the newer SP2 help file to no avail as it still does the same.
Any ideas?
Dave
In the VFP Global options, the help file is pointing to the correct place and file:
c:\program files (x86)\microsoft visual foxpro 9\dv_foxhelp.chm

Hi Dave,
Perhaps the CHM has become corrupt. Do you have a backup copy to try or maybe install VFP9 on a VM and nick the CHM off it.

Peter, CHM is fine as I can click on it and open outside VFP no problem.
Ted, permissions have been set correctly and it is windows 10 with latest updates. I addressed the problem of not being able to access chm files directly some time ago.
I first noticed it last week and it had been working fine up until then but I have no idea what changed apart from a massive M$ update last Wednesday.
I may well simply re-install VFP again and see what happens.

Yeah, that won't break anything :)
You might try this before the full install: http://fox.wikis.com/wc.dll?Wiki~CHMfiles
Hi Dave,
Are you aware of the updated VFP 9 SP2 Help file from VFPX, the community updated edition?

Update, Using the Codeplex updated help file and an associated reboot seems to have resolved the problem...
Thanks All.

I'm trying to access that file from here: http://vfpx.codeplex.com/releases/view/23319
...and yet the url for the zip file is this for some reason (and not the zip file itself): http://vfpx.codeplex.com/downloads/get/861801
...so when I try to save the target, it is this, and can't be saved: Release?ProjectName=vfpx&DownloadId=861801&FileTime=130470566614070000&Build=21031
What the heck?!?!?

Strange. It is working for me, it offers me to open or to save the file: dv_foxhelp_vfp9sp2_v1.07.zip
I use Firefox, last version.

You mention getting "save the target" dialogs that aren't working when trying to save the help file. The only way I know to get that dialog is to right-click. But in the case of CodePlex, you need to left-click to save files.
On my Windows 7 machines, when I left-click on http://vfpx.codeplex.com/downloads/get/861801 in this email chain, my default browser (Chrome) gives me Save/Save as options in the form of a Windows Explorer window. I get the same (albeit after a three second delay) if I paste that link into the Chrome address bar.
If I paste it into IE, then I get a save dialog at the bottom of the window that provides the same ability to save the compressed help file.
So what happens when you left-click the above link or paste that URL into your browser's address bar?

New machine?
Running Windows? Which one?
There are permissions issues that you need to update in Win 10...
