What is the add on I need to find for running my old car lot app on a semi modern machine? An old customer replaced a Win98 machine today.
thanks.

VFP9 haha no but seriously.
Is it Windows 10?

There are several... We use PrintFil for printing from DOS onto a Windows printer or into a PDF.
I used DOSBox before I believe.

If I understand correctly, I think you want vDOS. www.vdos.info
Highly recommended, simple to install and use.

That raises some interesting points.
If the new OS is a 32-bit version of 7 or 8 or 10 then the FP DOS application *will* run, but not fullscreen and you will need to redirect LPT1 to the printer somehow.

For printing, I output to file and then let DOSPrinter auto-convert it to PDF, open in Acrobat. www.dosprinter.net
I've printed 2500+ page PDF files from a DOS Fox app using this process.

Check it out! The Foxpro for DOS demo running in your browser!

Wow! - I had forgotten just how much functionality there was in the DOS version.

That brought back some memories :-) Never fully understood the Foundation Read though.

I am using that vDOS for my customer to run FPD on Win XP.
I am having a tough time overcoming the override of printing for LPT1. They supply a shareware app to do it but it brings up a standard windows print dialogue that never was there in the Win98 days.
Tonight I'll get the printer name and see if that can be passed in

Thanks, Mike! I hadn't see vDOS before. Gave it a runthrough and it looks promising.
Thanks Ted.
The 'trick' is to set it up as if it were a computer....using the config.txt and autoexec.txt files to design and control the system. Put it all in one folder with the FoxDos run and application APP files and it just works.
I licensed mine to get rid of the nag screen and the developer has been exceptionally helpful.

My first thought was to suggest using Oracle Virtual box to create a windows 98 or even a DOS virtual machine and run your application within the virtual machine. If your app will run in WinXP then you can create a virtual XP box and then use "net use" to capture your LPT1 port and map via the network to a usb device. You may have to use PrintFil to capture the port on the Windows98 virtual box to redirect the printer output.
I've had great luck keeping a couple of old btrieve database programs (MagicPC for those who might be interested) running on current machines doing similar installations.
Not pretty, but pretty cheap. And it works.
