Gentlemen, Just came across a really neat free utility to transfer files between different devices up to 10Gb in size. It is called Sendanywhere and it just works with no adware, nagware to ask you to buy the full product (there isn't one!!).
You can inter transfer from IOS, MacOSx, Windows and Linux seamlessly and very simply. There is even an outlook extension that is brilliant.
In all versions apart from the outlook extension you select the files to send then you are given a code which you then give to the recipient who enters it into the app at their end and bingo, the files are instantly transferred. With the outlook extension a link is sent in the email to the recipient and when they click it the download starts immediately ... they don't even need to download or load the ap as it is all done via their web browser ... with no nagware.
I was/am impressed as the grief we get when trying to send emails with attachments more than 20Mb is considerable....
There is also an extension for Gmail allowing you to bypass the Google limit of 25Mb for attachments.
Give it a go and report back!
Dave

... even better there is a full set of open source API calls that you can build into your application.

I've been using this software for sending large video files between computers in my organization. It's nice because you aren't relying on a service by another company. Very fast at syncing files.

So it's like DropBox but never uses the internet; instead it just syncs on your local network?
It won't use the Internet if it can accomplish the file transfer on your LAN. However, if it needs to go across the Internet, I believe it uses the TOR protocol to transport it across the tubes.

What are the security concerns on either side when it is either on your side or theirs?

I wouldn't recommend leaving any file in a directory designated for transfer. The Tor transfer is commonly thought of as fairly secure although the NSA has made inroads on de-anonymizing some file transfers.

Right...that's what I meant.

I'll bet that's very fast!
I would have cut the 10G files into smaller fragments using 7-zip, then sent them fragment by fragment. No special tools nor services needed!

We are just looking at sendanywhere now. People here can email up to something like 15-20mb then for anything bigger we just create links (with a password) and send them out for people to download. We get links sent to us all the time from wesendit and various others. No need to chop anything up.

Why bother when you can do it in one step?
You don't HAVE to send 10Gb and it means that the occasional large file is very simple to send in one action even if you only have a web browser at either end.
