They are NOT predicting crimes. They are using the software a crystal ball or a magic mirror. They are trusting and believing in the logic of the software. The proper name for this is astrology, *NOT* crime prediction! :)

That's not astrology. It's using data on past performance to predict future happenings. Hardly a 'holy grail' but it is possible that it would put an officer closer to a crime while it's happening then he/she would be otherwise but I doubt it.

It's still those magic mirror and crystal ball things.
Police departments don't predict nor create crimes, they respond to crimes. They have never needed to predict nor incite bad human behavior. Not even FBI would do those things.
Only CIA, NSA, homeland security and military personnels would wanna predict the actions of terrorists, and take action.
BUT... when one takes action based on prediction, the future was and is changed. It's very much like Heisenburg Uncertainty Principle! :)

I was thinking more about this logic and luck of crime prediction if not pre-crime....
1. Could we predict criminals and terrorists using DNA? Could we kill those babies if there was a match?
2. Does (1) sound familiar?
3. Yes, it's the story of King Herod trying to kill Jesus, as in the New Testament of the Holy Bible!!
4. It's also in the Old Testament, when God killed boys of Egypt to help Moses' people to leave.
5. If the software was trusted to predict, could we blame its programmers for all police mistakes? :)
6. Should I remind us that police have the right to kill citizens first? Well...
