Greetings all... My boss just sent this out so rather than retyping it, I'll just quote what he said:
"our software is client/server, MS SQL, and 100% on-premise with government clients. I have been working with a company called Wizmo that is offering to host our software, file structure, and databases. This would allow our customers to run our software in a browser, no installs, access from anywhere, any platform, not store their own data, not pay their own IT, etc.
Anyone have any experience/feedback with Wizmo ?
Hey Matt,
No experience here, but from looking at their website, they are offering remote Windows Desktop, for your application to run, and the rest is easy (either SQL server, or file share.) All "cloud" all the time.

Let us know how it turns out, Matt! Could be a nice way of preserving legacy apps....

So - a few days I was driving south on the 405 here in LA. And, most of you are probably already familiar with the really big Digital billboards that are popping up all over America - on the sides of major highways.
Well, I see this one - with an Ad for The Walking Dead (one of my favorite shows) - but, in the lower left 1/3 of the sign is this Blue Box! And, as I got closer, I saw it said "TeamViewer is Changing"! I had to laugh my ass off at that technical glitch. Am sure most folks driving by had no idea as to what is TeamViewer. But, it sure was funny!
Lastly, as I'm now located in LA - if anyone here is local to LA and wants to meet up for Beers & some Tech talk - feel free to drop me a line.
L8r, Kurt
I love seeing artifacts like that on public signage.

You'd enjoy following https://twitter.com/KevlinHenney -- folks send him pictures of BSODs and such on airport terminal boards, train stations, kiosks, etc.
Thanks Ted - just setup the Follow!

Yesterday, for purely nostalgic reasons, I spent an inordinate amount of time* repairing a local IIS implementation of AVFP: https://archive.codeplex.com/?p=activevfp Then today I spent part of the afternoon looking at blogs by people who implemented Windows IoT on RasPi's. I was bemused by the convolutions needed to implement the very simplest web server with Asp.Net or .Net Core on this setup. Sitting here with a beer I suddenly remembered a web server implemented in FoxPro, and to my surprise 30 secs on Google threw up the link: http://www.eetasoft.ee/ewebserv.htm%C2%A0 - If you search Ed's Archives you will find it discussed - many many years ago. From memory it just worked - it wasn't very scaleable but it 'did what it said on the tin'. I'll give it a run tomorrow.

The latest version of the Westwind Web Connection framework (7.10) has the option to run from a self-contained .Net Core based web server. It's flagged as a preview at the moment but knowing Rick I would expect it to pretty stable.

What's the advantage of that, RK?

No IIS installation or setup required. Check Rick's release notes for a better explanation than I can give.

I use IIS because I've got it on my Win10 PC - the RasPi implementations didn't use IIS but the overheads and general complexity are substantial compared to eetasoft (... or Python - before Ed butts in <g>)
