Any advice on how to obtain the Free edition of MySQL server for testing?
I'm assuming the free edition will run on Windows 7 or 10?
I see they have a Linux version, but it doesn't appear to be free.
Any tips appreciated!

Sorry...I know how to obtain the Free edition of MySQL server....
I'm asking for advice on the Linux version (free availability...is it worth the trouble to use) and the recommended hardware/OS requirements of the Windows Free version.
Thanks!

The free version is MariaDB. But the easiest thing if your time is worth anything would be to just set up a virtual server on Amazon Web Services.

Ted, I would (almost) give up my keyboard for the chance to get them to use MariaDB or anything other than the Evil Empire's SQL Server.
Unfortunately, I'm not driving the bus on this one and they're convinced that SqlServer and ultimately Azure is the only REAL game in town.
But, thanks for the breath of sanity!

Mike,
When I got into the computer business a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, I met an old technician, ironically named Paul, who used to say on a regular basis "Computers would be a lot more fun, if we could get rid of the users."
At the time I was shocked and horrified he would say something so offensive, but the older I've gotten, the more I have come to believe he might have been onto something...

I did exactly that once upon a time...but then I figured out that "no users" = "no income" and, well...
Maybe government work? lol

When I got into the computer business a long time ago I was told that if I wanted to enjoy my business “stay small”. I did and I’ve been in business since since 1987, 76 years old and still programming and loving it.

M$ marketing wins again! <g>
Nothing against "the Evil Empire" but I just don't like using SQL Server as much as I do VFP, MySQL/MariaDB, Oracle.
What about PostgreSQL?

Thanks, Ricardo. My bad....the subject SHOULD have read "NF - SQL Server Free Edition"
The client's software developer refuses to support anything but Microsoft's SQL Server, and is pushing for Azure use.
Next time I won't post messages with half a brain...or less.

So, when you asked for the free version of MySQL, you meant the "free" version of SQL Server?
Well, never mind, then.
Oye....
Yes, my bad. I guess I'm more open-source minded than I realized.
The software developer has stated emphatically that they will only support SQL Server and are encouraging all their users to switch to Azure eventually. I offered, but they had no interest in my opinion.
