Hi
I have a legacy app written in VFP6 with Codemine7. The customer has just asked for some new reports but I'm finding it will not compile on Windows 7, 8 or 10.
It throws messages which may be Codemine related saying Session not initialised. It also complains about not being able to write to the registry.
SP5 will not install because MDAC is not installed, MDAC install just freezes or quits the install with no error.
Is anybody aware of any reasons or whether there are any kill switches in either product.
I've got a Windows XP (yes I know) computer on the way to try it on that.
Regards
Graham Brown

There's nothing specifically stopping VFP6 working in Windows 10 as far as I know. Definitely no 'kill switch'. It sounds more permission-related. There may be something intrinsic in Codemine but I doubt it has anything blocking a specific OS either. Try running VFP6 as administrator.
MDAC won't install on anything later than Server 2003\XP I think.
Personally I would spin up a VM with Windows XP in it and develop on that for VFP6.
There seems to be some confusion about mdac (up to WinXP you definitely needed the latest version. The consensus ref. Google is that it was renamed Windows DAC and is pre-installed - however ms seem to offer it here: http://microsoftdataaccesscomponentsmdac28.10appstore.net/win10software.html
What you *do* need for VFP and VB is the correct version of ODBC - from memory you install the 32 bit version and rename it?
Andy, the link you provided causes our ESET AV to block it as a potential dangerous site. Just an FYI.

Sophos Endpoint Enterprise here and it allows access to the download no problem.

Just downloaded mentioned MDAC_TYP.EXE, length 6.100.504 Byte. I have found in my archive another one of length 5.556.616 Byte I have downloaded cca in 2007 from Microsoft and I have surely used installing VFP6 (in XP or Win7). If you do not trust this one from appstore, you can download my version from: http://www.bucek.info/tmp/MDAC_TYP_2_8.EXE
