I have built and maintain a few very simple websites for some one-man businesses and local charities using Front Page 2003. I have now moved over to a Mac with Win 10 on Bootcamp (when it works - Win 10 sucks!) but would like to use a suitable Mac product. I know there are some Mac users out there :-). Can anyone recommend a very simple web design software similar to Front Page, ideally low-cost as I don’t make any money out of these websites.
Thanks
John

WordPress. Free or very cheap hosting on a number of sites, lots of free templates, many free add-ons, lots of room for expansion.

I know you said "Free", but I really recommend purchasing website templates from a site such as http://templatemonster.com as it saves you hours and hours of time. I can purchase a template on sale for about $40. For that little fee, it will give me a responsive design and I end up with a website that looks like a million$. Yes, you can choose a regular website, but I often purchase a WordPress template to gain the benefits that Ted mentioned. You're not tied into a hosting package and you can host (almost) anywhere.
If you are comfortable with Photoshop (or The Gimp) and HTML editing, it's worth saving hours of my life for this little amount of money.
HTH.

Kevin's right. If you want top-notch sites, a purchased template is orders of magnitude better.
Some sites are fine to get by with the templates bundled with WP. They have gotten MUCH better over the years.
A caution not to pick up sketchy "free" templates from random websites: they often contain questionable marketware, malwware or other means of making money (like cryptomining) at the expense of your clients.
If the clients are interested in SEO or running their own store, taking donations or managing membership, there are subsystems for that, but the price goes up.

Elegant Themes do an addin for Wordpress called DIVI and I have used it a lot. It allows fully responsive sites that look very professional and it is just simple to use with loads of tutorials etc. Most impressive with a thriving active responsive user group.
Not free but very cheap.

I’ve used Elegant Themes before. Pretty good products. Good support.
I also use ThemeForest to find good WordPress themes and I’ve had good success there. Just stick to those themes with higher sales counts.

Another plug for Elegant Themes and a reminder similar to Ted that there's a lot of admin work to keep a "free" WordPress site updated and secure. After several years of being a half-assed (or worse) WordPress "expert", I went the hosted route and have used Squarespace, Strikingly, and Tilda.cc with success. Good luck and let us know what route you end up going.

Many thanks to all who responded - I’m constantly amazed by the breadth of knowledge and willingness to help in the Profox community. I don’t think I made myself sufficiently clear in my original post, I’m looking for a tool which will enable me to edit and update existing sites created with Front Page, not necessarily free but certainly low-cost. It appears that Amaya or Kompozer will probably do the job. I will investigate further, however the discussion on Wordpress has inspired me to re-write these sites using Wordpress in the fullness of time when I have finally got my head round the Mac :-)
Thanks again

Yeah good luck with that request. HTML5 & CSS are the gotos. You don't have any carts and such do you?
I'd go to youtube video after finding the "free" tool you think you want.

I use Kompozer on WIN 10. I don't know whether there is a MAC version.

Let me throw in a "+1 with extreme caution" for WordPress.
Pros:
1. Flexibility
2. Ease in maintaining content
3. Multiple authors can contribute content
4. Healthy plugin community
Cons:
1. As the #1 blogging platform, your site will constantly be under attack. Patch. Patch plugins.
2. Performance can be an issue. Content is pulled from a database and can be slower than a static site. However, there are plugins that help with this (Who knew!?!) where they cache the pages and make the site faster.
3. Editing of advanced / responsive templates still require an experts touch. That's you!
4. If your site gets hacked, it can take a bit to get everything back. Yes, there is a plugin that will help you with site backups and might be the fastest way to get a site back after a hack.

Yup, You are posting dynamic content on the internet, where all four billion users can interact with it. WordFence at a minimum for security plug-ins. I usually use several.
Users should not be admins; they add add sketchy plugins from random sites and get owned. As Me How I Know (tm).
Good passwords for users.
Minimize exposure: no comments unless you need them, for example.
Still and all, you get a professional-appearing templates, responsive design, basic SEO and a site the user can edit at a pretty reasonable price. I've used it for several not-obvious-they-are-blogs websites my clients maintain.
Me, I prefer to design websites with ViM. (But I have a blog, too!)
