Apparently this doesn't work anymore when clicking on the ProFox Email List (under Community in the Task Pane startup): https://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox
Who do we contact to fix that? (Or is it too late since they turned off the lights in Redmond for the VFP team?)
Try http://mail.leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox

I added a redirect to my apache server. It should work fine now.

Thanks so much, Ed. Your lifetime efforts with the Fox are very much appreciated, even though you don't code much (if at all?) in it anymore!

I haven't touched VFP since early 2008. I don't even own a copy of it anymore.

I saw on here that you can find a copy on ebay for less than $20, if you're so inclined. hahaha
Where's the funny part?
The thought of paying for it I guess.

The part about "only $20 on ebay!" What a deal!

Aw geez, then I'd have to get a Windows VM to run it in. :(

Ed (and others),
What tech do you find yourself enjoying nowadays? I don't just mean doing it for a paycheck, but something that you REALLY like, akin to the golden days when you were loving the Fox.
T-SQL and SharePoint nowadays for outside of our ERP system. InFor, our ERP vendor, has made a complex tool know as ION that is a listener on top of the system/data that will pick up every type of transaction and allow you to workflow it if necessary. Every year we route more functionality through it. Our initial use was to replace hundreds of GL workbooks that were created every month for sophisticated GL analysis. Last year we put in a maintenance package to deal with parts for all of our plants, EDI, and we just activated a logistics system as well.

I still love working in Python, even when it's not for my day job. I also love fooling around with containers and related things, but so far it's just a curiosity thing.

I recently installed Windows 3.11 in a VMWare VM, including networking, for a giggle.
Not strictly frivolous - we do have one remaining customer who is gradually migrating off our ancient Foxpro 2.6 For Windows product and it's the easiest way to have a copy of their system here. I can't bring myself to install a 32-bit version of Windows 10 or whatever.
I'm going to chime in for Xojo ... again. I find it's really fun to develop in. I'm using it at my new job working with my county government. The Xojo web application that I built for them is "invaluable" for them to accomplish their job in the Building Department.
Here's my check list:
- XBase like language: Check - Object oriented: Check - Singlular IDE: Check - Case insensitive programming language: Check - Report writer: Half check (they're working on improving this) - FOSS: no - Try it for free for an unlimited time: Check - Reasonable license cost: Check - Can develop commercial products: Check - Deploy to as many customers as you want with that license: Check - Small focused company: Check - Documentation in English: Check - Example programs: Check (Hundreds of them) - Friendly community: Check - Database agnostic: Check - Active development of the product: Check - Compile to Windows: Check - Compile to Mac: Check - Compile to Linux: Check - Build console applications: Check - Build desktop applications: Check - Build web applications: Check - Build iOS applications: Check - Build Android applications: Coming soon. Perhaps 2017 - Build Raspberry Pi applications: Check - Easy to build web applications: Yes. Almost build them like desktop applications! - Can host web applications for a "reasonable" cost: Yes, starting at $5 at http://DigitalOcean.com and similar - Web applications are secure: Yes. Doubly yes when hosted in the Xojo Cloud service (http://www.xojo.com/cloud/ ) - Native controls per platform: Yes (This means that a Mac app looks like a Mac app, etc. ) - Actively published magazine: Yes ( http://xdevmag.com/ ) - Conferences in USA: Yes (http://www.xojo.com/xdc/HTML/index.html ) - Conferences in EU: Yes (http://www.monkeybreadsoftware.de/xojo/events/berlin-2017-event.shtml ) - Easy to move from VFP mindset to Xojo: Yes - Perfect: No - Excellent: Yes
If there was ever a VFP replacement, I think Xojo is it.

In a similar vein I noticed this recently.
"B4J – Modern “VB6 like” development tool for cross platform desktop, server and IoT solutions
B4J is a 100% free development tool for desktop, server and IoT solutions. With B4J you can easily create desktop applications (UI), console programs (non-UI) and server solutions. The compiled apps can run on Windows, Mac, Linux and ARM boards (such as Raspberry Pi)."
I think some folk here used their 'BASIC For Android' product which now seems to be called 'B4A'.
B4A, B4J and B4I which covers the Android, iPhone and PC Windows/Linux platforms.
As many of you know I have used this now for about 4 years and have been extremely impressed, in fact amazed at what you can actually do with the product.
Now I am starting to look at full Virtual Reality using an Oculus headset driven by B4A and hopefully will have something to show in the next few weeks.
Like the fox, there are many ways to do things and the availability of addon libraries is fantastic. Erel, the main developer is forever helpful and keeps putting out updates to the product on a regular basis.
Other than that, T-SQL as others have said as well as C# (M$ Visual Studio). I still really want to get into Python but never seem to have the time. Maybe when I reach retirement age next year!

I'm really having fun (and enjoying work satisfaction) with the following technologies:
+ Salt (python-based configuration management and remote execution) + Docker (swarm services deployed with salt) + Cassandra + Git + and Python of course
