Since the beginning of the month we have been getting phone calls from customers with large copiers that are setup as network printers (or networked all -in-one business class printers). They are no longer able to print multiple copies to the copier using our old Crystal Reports 8.5. It appears each collated report is sent to the printer as a separate print job. Sometime, the printer will print 2 out of 10 copies. Many times, it only prints the 1st copy.
If one does not collate, all the pages seem to print.
I'm able to reproduce this behavior in house on the Dell B3465dnf Laser MFP.
The only workaround we have been able to find, Save the report as a PDF (or print it to a PDF printer). Then preview the report in the PDF viewer and print it from there.
I don't see this behavior in another product that is using the FoxyPreviewer. The product that uses Crystal Reports has over 200 reports, and some 20 of the are crosstab reports. A few of the are very complicated with multiple sub-reports. I do not see this being converted to VFP reports to run in FoxyPreviewer.
More just getting this information out to others. But if someone has some useful thoughts, I'll happily listen.
Thank you, Tracy
No easy answers to this one, but a couple of questions: you're getting this report from a couple of customers, unrelated, who are using an older product that hasn't changed, right? I don't know if it's possible to determine if the printer software has been updated, either on the machine (these are computers in their own right) or on the desktop. When in doubt, blame Windows 10 Anniversary Edition, as everyone else is :)
An old stackoverflow solution for a similar problem, though on HP LaserJets (and Win7) , has me thinking it might be a default job setting that Windows has helpfully introduced into their printing subsystem... http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJet-Printing/Laserjet-won-t-print-multiple...

Hey, I've gotten more printer-related complaints about Win10 (pre Anni Ed) than any other version of Windows, and far more complaints and problems with Win10 printing than anything else Win10 related.
It looks like they rewrote most of the printing subsystem in an attempt to be more Cloud-oriented???
Very odd stuff, like Windows 10 automatically switching the port on a network printer set to an IP address port to an SWD port?
Single pages that used to take sub-seconds to eject the page now take 15 to 20 for the first page to appear. All the same hardware, just an upgrade to Win10 (yes, I know, look for updated printer drivers.)
Mike
Hi Ted,
Yes, some of the printers have a "Mopier" setting. Those can be turned off. The Dell I mentioned, and the Konica copiers do not appear to have that as a setting.
Thank you, Tracy

For a good laugh, search "Recent Windows update breaks printer collating" for 2,280,000 hits, none of which may apply to you.
If you started getting support calls on or just after, the second Tuesday in the month, that would be my first suspect. Now that many firms are just letting MS control updates, it's become a little trickier to debug these scenarios.

Perhaps this has something to do with it?

Thank you Ken. That does sound like the problem. The printers we are having problems with do not appear to have the Mopier setting.

Surprised that your customers upgraded to Win 10. I think most business users didn't do it, because they were afraid of this kind of troubles.

Most business users that I deal with are\were happy on Windows 7 and skipped 8 completely. Any small operations with external IT that are replacing equipment are happily going for Windows 10 now, as that's what is being pushed by Dell etc. Any big operation with an internal IT dept (ourselves included) seem to be largely hanging on Windows 7 because they can dictate via volume licencing what gets installed, and it's a known quantity.
I think the biggest issue is that these manufacturers are providing home and not pro. There are certainly issues with 10 that need to be dealt with like security stopping writing to program files. I used to write ini files there but now use app data. Otherwise I don't think there is much in 10 to be afraid of. And VFP runs fine on it except for the look. VFP windows look a bit old in the dev. Man-wai,
Our 37,000 + sales have been to churches with 1 to 20 computers. I would estimate on average our customers have 4 computers owned by the organization. Our business went to Windows 10. There is only 14 in our company. 5 of those are full time support technicians for our product.
That said, I'm not surprised our customers have switched to Windows 10.

Windows Cumulative Updates That You Can't Opt Out Of Easily - Just Say Way To Piss Your User Base Off
A few rounds of this and they'll really be catching hell from corporate IT depts.

Absolutely. This is a fascinating clash between "updating the software of ignorant consumers" and "taking control away from folks with line-of-business applications they depend on." Bundling all the patches as one was the last step; for years now, MS has been shipping patches with generic "This addresses an issue in Windows" and making it really hard to figure out which patches you want to use and which to skip.
MS has some of the best software testing processes in the software world, but the increasing complexity of their environment is making it harder and harder to get it 100% right.
I'm confused. Mopier mode by definition is a "mode that computer printers may be switched on to that only allows them to print one copy of a document at a time." (https://www.reference.com/technology/mopier-mode-eeb403e4593478b4). So why are users expecting to be able to print multiple copies in the first place???
If your users are on Windows 10 and need to disable mopier mode, there are 17-step instructions at http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2795563/disable-mopier-mode-windows.htm l. There are also 8-step directions for other operating systems.
