I agree with Alan. It is a little drastic to disable the caching just to get a correct view in the used files. We had to do this on Server 2008 but on 2012 we have left the default and it causes no problems at all apart from the time lag you have encountered.

If you can open them as and when you need, and exclusively if you have to, then why sweat it? Could be indexing, AV, anything that like that which has a filter driver installed. I certainly wouldn't go messing with server settings unless it's causing you a problem.
