A few more clues might give you a more targeted answer.

1. How big is the file, and how much reduction are you aiming for? 2. What's the composition of the PDF: scanned pages, graphics, text? 3. Are you generating it from a FoxPro report? 4. Using PostScript fonts? Which driver are you using to generate it?

Generic answer: use pdftk (https://www.pdflabs.com/tools/pdftk-the-pdf-toolkit/)

But that might not apply.
