Good afternoon Profoxers,
After a 2 year rollercoaster ride I’m back doing tech things and it feels great.
Two years ago what can only be described as the UK shitstorm hit my family business that had been trading profitably since 1971. In some respects it was good that my father had passed on as he would have been devastated to see all we had built destroyed inside 18 months. 28 people lost their jobs, I became very depressed and considered many options including the worst possible. Fortunately my wife and children pulled me through the blackness that was surrounding me and following 5 months working in a school teaching Design Technology and Food I decided that this was a way back for me to rebuild myself. I struggled to get my qualifications from the 1980’s accepted and have found myself doing the final year of a bachelors degree in order to get on a teaching course.
There are only five people doing this course (it only started last year) and none of them have any industry experience. Whilst I want to say “This wouldn’t happen in the real world” I know I have to bite my tongue, do it how they want to get those letters after my name.
Advanced Databases is a thing… Well it would be advanced if you hadn’t been working with them since dBase III and Ingres. I’m using good old Foxpro to access the SQL Server they use although I have moved from Version 6 to 9 now!
Have to do stuff in Java and target at Android phones – Steep learning curve there. If there is anyone who either has worked on a crowdfunding site or an international trading system web facing please say hello, I’d love to pick your brains and will happily pay in beer tokens!
Regards,
Adam Buckland
PS Are Michael Madagain and Dr P Thesian still about?
