OTOH I've updated over 30 machines from Windows 7 to 10 and have had zero issues. These have all been decent quality Dell machines. If you spent as much on a Windows PC as you're planning to spend on a Mac you'll be very happy.

FWIW I've upgraded 5 or 6 Windows 10 boxes, and aside from some old laptops taking an age to do it there have been no problems. Every time I've tried to upgrade a Linux distro on older hardware it's ended up with Wifi not working or something.
