I use Radmin with one of my clients. $49 per PC as a one-time fee.
The only trick is that you need to open a port on their firewall. The port can be of your choosing. Example: port 4899. I've used TeamViewer to connect to their PC, and then use their PC to connect to their firewall and set up a rule that opens that port, and forwards traffic to the PC I want to control. The PC should have a static IP address as you probably guessed.
It has been rock solid ... as long as they don't switch out their firewall, which has happened. 10 years worth of remote access for the $49 is a pretty fair deal IMO.
Take care, Kevin

Customer is a small business and NOT tech savvy at all (so don't suggest "UltraVNC configured oh so cool!"). I warned her you get what you pay for many times, but said I'd research it. I use TeamViewer and it's great for me but overkill for her. TV has a free license but the wording appears to be such that it's for accessing your personal home computer from work (not the other direction). LogMeIn (as we've noted here) kept jacking up prices, and they have no more free version. I've got a question into gotomypc.com to see if unattended access is an option for their product (although it's not free either). I have no problem telling a client that free isn't possible but I did say I'd check first. GotoMyPC's pricing isn't bad for the single user if she can use it in unattended access mode: https://get.gotomypc.com/plansandpricing
