An SCX is a DBF (table). As is a VCX/FRX/LBX/MNX. So is a DBC but that's getting a bit meta...
The other vague memory I have of something like this is a corrupted SCX. If you have backups or source control perhaps an earlier version of the SCX can be restored.

Yeah - I spent HOURS today with the IT guy on my team who does networking & IT support - he's NOT one of the Developers - but, he HAS a Dev background. And, we were struggling to try SO Many things. Even trying some installs/updates from the VFP CD ROM they have. Still to no avail...
In my original posting - Backlink claims to be tied to a Screen and Not a DBF - which is SO WEIRD!
I agree - maybe it's Misleading - and truth is NOT what it points to! And, yeah - computers - always so much fun! Even what Richard Q. suggested - I showed that Specifically to my IT guy - as that is His Territory. He was like - Nope - that's not it.
Gotta say - starting a new job - and at the end of the 1st full week - stumbling upon such a STRANGE Issue - it's not only Perplexing - Butt Hella Frustrating!
I will say - and this is VERY Interesting and IRONIC! In searching the ProFox Archives - I found the 1st person who complained of a Backlink issue! Ironically - it's my manager at this job - who posted the job - Wayne. Although, in His case (back in like 2000) - it was indeed tied to Data and DBF files...
Have a GREAT Weekend Folks!!!

Hmmm... I guess I really don't understand exactly how/where the backlink message is coming from.
All VFP things are DBFs under the hood, right. So it is possible to accidentally add a FRX/LBX/SCX/VCX to a DBC and as Bill noted this creates some metadata in the table which indicates it's in a DBC. OTOH this could be a misleading error and it's a permission/environmental issue as Richard Q suggested. Computers! Always so much fun...

No - error is not coming from a DBC.
I spent this afternoon working with my networking guy - trying to figure it out. Like if I'm missing files or something is corrupted. HE Also has a local copy of the system on his C: drive. He copied the EXE I created that's on the server, the same EXE I've been trying to run - and it works on HIS PC locally - but, not on mine. At this point - he has suggested I just copy down the whole system again from the Server to my PC - which I am doing right now. It's going to take an hour to copy the files. So - I'm going to leave it and let it run overnight. Then come back Mon. Morning and try testing things again!
So - yeah - I'm heading out of here shortly...

Is the backlink error coming from the VALI DATA? If so, open that DBC EXCUSIVE, run VALIDATE DATABSE <dbcname> RECOVER. That should repair the DBC itself. PACK it when you're done. Make backups before you start. : - )

RK - I just tried the FREE TABLE <form.scx> thing - and VFP stated "... is not part of a Database."
I kinda figured that was not an option - since a Table must be part of a DBF in order to Set it Free!
Heck - at this point - I'm trying anything. I even compiled an EXE in the Live system area - copied that EXE over to my C: drive testing area - ran it - and get the Same Backlink error.
I'm pulling my hair out on this - and I don't have any hair left to pull out!

Bill's advice seems more direct but you can also try issuing FREE TABLE <form.scx>.

*DO FORM common\forms\Logon2.scx *<<
Open up the Login form as a DBF NOUPDATE and go to record 6. Check the ClassLoc memo field or the Methods memo field or even the Reserved8 memo field (that holds the .H file if it exists). That'll take care of 98 percent of the issues. If you can't find it, check the other memo fields - it could be an OLE control or something like that.
Once you locate it, back it up, take off the NOUPDATE clause, edit directly in the DBF, save, compile the form and you're now unblocked.
