Oh, sure! Various parts of the technology need to reach a level of maturity where they are good enough, flexible enough and can't be improved on. We started working with metal 5 or 6 thousand years ago, and no doubt there are some tools that were pretty mature 500 years ago.
I'll bet vim and emacs live a long life. They already have :)
