Validating email addresses

My client wants to weed out the bad emails she has in her database. I'm guessing however she's sending them out, she's either not getting the bounce backs or it's too manual a process. Don't you hate it when you have a super long one-time conversion program, add some new 1-time crap over time, and then all of the sudden when ready to run you get this error message, AND CAN'T SEE WHERE THIS MISSING/ERRANT STRUCTURE IS? I'd be surprised if we haven't all been there at some point in our dev lives. It pays to take the time and do good modular design instead of this way-too-long PRG run on crap. hahaha

[NF] Multi-function printers

What do you guys use at home for multi-function printers (those that can also scan/copy as well as print...faxing too I guess although I have a fax service for that). My wife insists on a color printer, and I told her I prefer lasers and do NOT want inkjets given my experience with inkjets in the past. (In the end, I don't think inkjets are that much of a better value if at all, and I like the fact that lasers don't smudge or run when touched if wet.) tia, --Mike

VFP OLEDB in M$SQL Linked Server

Gentlemen, Just a little tester for you at the end of the week. I am trying to import data from a live VFP databases into some software written in C# which has worked fine using the VFPOLEDB interface. Now, if possible, I want to set up a linked database in M$SQL Server so I can access the data from the same database directly in a TSQL stored procedure and I have had partial success. Using SQLManagement Studio I have set up the VFPOLEDB software on the SQL Server and under ServerObjects/LinkedServers/Providers can see the SQLOLEDB provider - so far so good. I have also set up a linked server definition as follows: EXEC master.dbo.sp_addlinkedserver @server = N'SQL2012_DEV_Flexispec', -- Your linked server name here @srvproduct=N'Visual FoxPro 9', -- can be anything @provider=N'VFPOLEDB', @datasrc=N'c:\flexispec_temp\data\flexdata.dbc', @provstr=N'VFPOLEDB.1' This works and I can see above the linked server in the LinkedServers section but I can't link to it at all (Right click on Linked server and 'test connection' returns back SQL Error 7302 -> Cannot create an instance of OLE DB provider "VFPOLEDB" for linked server "SQL2012_DEV_Flexispec". So, my hope of running the following statement: select * from SQL2012_DEV_Flexispec...Customers (yes you need 3 x full stops is what you have to format the code as) is obviously not working, returning back the same error about the creation of the OLEDB Instance. I am beginning to doubt my sanity here as I have trawled all the net looking for a solution, to no avail. I have changed the options in the Windows Component services as per one post and allowed "In Process" creation against the Provider Properties for the OLEDB. I am beginning to wonder if the 64bit SQL Server doesn't want to play nicely with the VFP OLEDB 32 bit drivers but can't prove it. Any ideas before you go home? Dave

Disappearing (and later reappearing) data on Windows Server 2016

VFP9SP2 app on Win10 clients; data on Windows Server 2016 Client showed me (via TV session) how adding records seems to show the new records in the local vfp view, then after saving, not showing them, then exiting and re-entering the app, the data is there. Now normally we'd say "well it must be a bug in the app" -- but this app has been rock solid and bug free with this basic add operation for 14+ years now. The only change in the environment is the new Server 2016. Anyone having any issues with their VFP DBC tables residing on Windows Server 2016? tia, --Mike

Alternative to PROGRAM() and SYS(16,n)

Hi all I want to find the path of the "master" EXE at some arbitrary point in code - and I need it to work within a method of a class defined as OLEPUBLIC. PROGRAM() and SYS(16,n) do not give me just the fully qualified path/name of the master EXE. I have come up with the following but I wondered whether anybody can think of a better/simpler solution. Syncing data locally from a remote database

VFP9SP2 app, MySQL(MariaDB) secure database on web Scenario: customer uses my software but has an extremely slow connection to the remote database and as such, queries involving large, sometimes-changing lookup data is slow. Solution: pull data locally for quick lookup. This works if I can do some sort of Sync operation to make sure the local copy matches the remote copy. The Primary Keys are varchar-40 GUID, and there's a timestamp field as well. My thought was to use those 2 fields for the sync. If it exists in both and the remote timestamp is newer, update the local record. If it exists in the remote but not locally, add it local. If it exists in the local but not in the remote, delete it from local. Any new adds or updates to existing records will then be done to the remote database and then echoed locally. I was thinking I'd setup MariaDB locally for this local database. Comments on that plan of attack? tia, --Mike
