[NF] T'was the Night Before Crisis

'Twas the night before crisis, and all through the house, Not a program was working, not even a browse. The programmers were wrung out, too mindless to care, Knowing chances of shipping hadn't a prayer. The users were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of inquiries danced in their heads. When out in the lobby there arose such a clatter, That I sprang from my cube to see what was the matter. And what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a SUPER PROGRAMMER, oblivious to fear. More rapid than eagles, his programs they came, And he whistled and shouted and called them by name: On Update! On Add! On Inquiry! On Delete! On Batch Jobs! On Closing! On Functions Complete! His eyes were glazed over, his fingers were lean, >From weekends and nights in front of the screen. A wink of his eye, and a twist of his head, Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, Turning specs into code, then he turned with a jerk. And laying his finger on the ENTER key, The system came up, and worked perfectly. The updates, updated; the deletes, they deleted; The inquiries, inquired; and the closing completed. He tested each whistle, he tested each bell, With nary an abend, and all had gone well. The system was finished, the tests were concluded, The client's last changes were even included! Geek Gatherings 2024: Save the Dates!

We have locked in our dates for our 2024 conferences and hope you will save the dates to attend. Our one-day Virtual Fox Fest 2024 will be Wednesday, May 8, 2024. It still has the same great features everyone loves about VFF: great speakers delivering great sessions, live chatting during presentations, and getting to hang out virtually with new and old friends. This event will feature classic sessions from previous conferences, updated for 2024. We're excited to offer you Southwest Fox 2024, a hybrid conference, September 26-29, 2024. You decide whether to come in person or watch online! The in-person event will be held at the Hampton Inn & Suites Phoenix-Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Arizona. Printer Dialogue

I'm not certain when but in Windows 11 the printer dialogue for 32 bits apps changed ... If you leave the new dialogue active (you can change registry settings to force the old one) then anything you do with set printer before printing a report with printer prompt brings up the dialogue but it just displays the default printer, is forcing the old dialogue the only solution for vfp apps or is there a way to get vfp to work nicely with it? Been quiet in here for a while, so I thought I'd toss out something I'm tinkering with and ask for your advice. Besides, I want to keep my name on the monthly top 10! J I have a large table populated with the IP2LOCATION-LITE-DB3 list. It takes about 30 - 60 seconds to do the location look up on a list of 50,000+ ip address records. I'm pretty sure I'm getting Rushmore optimization on the LOCATE FOR line, but I've been wondering if there is a way to use SEEK with an index to find a value between the numeric IP_FROM field and the numeric IP_TO field. But I cannot figure out how I can create an index that would give me Rushmore optimization and let me use the SEEK command for a value between those to numerics. FYI, I tried doing a simple SQL query to a temporary cursor, but surprisingly, the LOCATE FOR command is actually faster. Hey, I know I'm being greedy, but I'm wondering if it is possible to squeeze any more speed out of this process. I may be using the best method, but I figured if y'all had a minute you might give me a little feedback. Thanks in advance! Paul H. Folks, Version 96 compatibility completed. Version 96 is a pretty big release, including the new DNS class. Located some methods and properties missing from the Chilkat release notes and added them. Found one more class missing a Version property. As ever, documentation fixes and additions, minor code fixes. Hi Dumb question time. Vis Fox has been a huge part of my career since the late 90s, I still support my VFP apps but I now find my new developments are either PHP or VS.NET. Has there been any thought to creating lists for other languages like Web, mobile, VB.Net and C#? Is there a requirement for this within the group? Just wondering about our brave new world! Hi All Would anyone have any suggestions of how best to approach sending ZPL commands to a compatible printer? If the printer is on the network I can get this to work using ChilKat such as https://www.example-code.com/foxpro/socket_connect.asp But I have also found that you can get ZPL to a printer that is connected via USB or network using the Generic / Text Only Driver ... this works with a simple example from https://labelary.com/viewer.html but if the commands become more extensive (maybe because an image has been included) then this method goes wrong I think because the driver is doing something relating to page size? But not sure. If possible I would like a native VFP method of connecting to either a USB or Network connected ZPL printer and be able to send whatever I like ... thoughts? Hi All, I have 2 questions: 1. Base64 I want to insert base64 encrypted data (PDF/DOCX) into a HL7 message. My first idea was to use STRconvert. But during the first test I noticed the following problem. The text Polyfon zwitschernd aßen Mäxchens Vögel Rüben, Joghurt und Quark should be in Base64. UG9seWZvbiB6d2l0c2NoZXJuZCBhw59lbiBNw6R4Y2hlbnMgVsO2Z2VsIFLDvGJlbiwgSm9naHVydCB1bmQgUXVhcms= But Foxpro ( strconv(lcText,13) ) returns UG9seWZvbiB6d2l0c2NoZXJuZCBh32VuIE3keGNoZW5zIFb2Z2VsIFL8YmVuLCBKb2dodXJ0IHVuZCBRdWFyaw== The problem seems to be in the letter "ß". Without ß the encoding works. I know I could also use e.g. Chilcat, but I would prefer to use internal Foxpro functions. Does anyone have an idea? 1. Excel Automation I want to insert data into a formatted Excel sheet . At the moment I write the data into the cells using OLE ....Cells(xy).value= xyz This works but is very slow. Is there a way to insert data from Foxpro e.g. into a Range object and save time?
