Comparing Table Structures

Hello: I wish to compare two tables' structures. I have a transaction table, and I wish to check that an import table matches up well enough. Well enough? All columns in the transaction table must be in the import table and of the same type and size. If there are additional column in the import table or if the columns are in a different order, it does not matter. It would be nice to able to copy each structure into an array and then compare them using scan(). Instead, I think that I have to copy structured extended to a temporary table -- I would prefer a cursor -- and then copy from that to an array for each of the two tables and only then compare. That seems rather Rube-Goldbergian. I could be missing something. I hope I am. What is a good way of doing this? Sincerely, Gene Wirchenko

You are welcome. 3) Some other software might be expecting only values of the particular size and if you do not make sure that the values are that way, interesting things might happen. For example, N(4) is just right for four-digit numbers and that other program might be defined that way. If your declaration is 16-bit int ... <I am sure you have a good imagination>. VFP9 I don't see why folks would use Numeric(X,0) where X > 4 instead of an Integer field. Can you tell me why? I'm guessing it's leftover legacy design? tia, --Mike

Unexpected results from a group by clause

I have an SQL select statement that includes a group by clause to order the output for reporting. It gets its data from a table that potentially includes legitimate duplicate records. SELECT account, date, memo, paid_amoun; FROM QB; GROUP BY account, date, memo, paid_amoun; INTO CURSOR det I happened to discover that the output of the select statement does not include duplicate records. Is this expected behavior? If so , how should one group data with duplicate records? Tuning VFP SQL Pass-Through For Fastest Times Transferring Query Results

I'm working on a project which involves issuing multiple queries across several SQL databases and servers. At this point, I'm polling about 30 databases and retrieving data from four tables from each database. I really have no reason to complain as my procedure including retrieving the data synchronously over a VPN, processing results locally and then exporting the data to local files only takes about 6 minutes. However, I see this as an opportunity to tune my sql back-end connection and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions say for setting the PacketSize or other changes that might optimize the retrieval of data from the server(s).
