Google API for Geocoding ... Again

Fellow Gentlemen, I posted a request about doing geocoding requests to receive back a Lat/Long dataset for various addresses a few weeks ago and now find that Google do in fact provide a Geocoding service: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/geocoding/start The responses back from the requests are all JSON from a Java Script API run by Google. I have looked over Rick's Westwind site to try and get a start on using this method to get back a JSON response but seem to be getting nowhere fast. Anyone got any ideas on a simple & neat way of retrieving this data back using VFP programmatically? Either that or anyone know a free Geocoding site that would handle up to 100 name and address calls per day ideally by sending a text file and receiving one back which could be automated from the VFP end. Never even looked at Web services in anger before so it all seems a little baffling and terribly long winded at the moment unless I am missing something obvious. Note I don't want to have to drop into an intermediate program/language to accomplish this, if possible. Dave

Searching for FoxPro Work & a Change in Work Status...

Hey there folks, I'm writing this email mostly as a way to do some Networking. So - on Fri I was laid off from my day job. The reasons kinda sucked, and its kinda complicated. Suffice it to say I didn't do anything truly Bad - I was just not doing the Right stuff according to some people. But, Others there - they will FREAK out on Mon. when the word gets around the co. that I was Fired! As many of you know - 3D Design and 3D Printing is my real passion. And, I WILL now be trying to make some true progress in that regards to making money. Actually going to see a patent lawyer associate of mine today to discuss some of my projects, and getting a patent on one or more of them. However, I need a kind of backup plan. Thus why I am looking around for VFP work. So - if anyone knows of anything in the NYC area - or even work that I can do remotely - I would really appreciate it! Oh - FYI - I did get one thing - as they agreed to pay me for the full month of Dec. - which isn't too shabby as far as severance packages go - although not that great. L8r, Kurt

The tables that we were concerned about were the work transaction table and the invoice table. Archive up to a selected date. It is ad hoc. Sincerely, Gene Wirchenko

I wanted to share mine with you. I'm sure it's stuff I've collected from here from Ted and others over the years. After debugging and clicking "Fix", I often would encounter some bizarro VFP bug whereby my IDE would freeze. I added code into my cleanup routine to close out the debugger window and that saved me so much frustration over the years. I've seen long-time softwares with VFP backends that had a ton of data (10+ years worth) and I had devised a method in one case recently to be able to "archive" old data by storing it in a subfolder intelligently (so it could be easily retrieved and/or reimported into the main data set). I haven't used a VFP backend since 2004 when Bob Lee introduced me to the MySQL world but nonetheless I thought I'd ask if devs here ever put anything like an "archiving" feature into their software, and how they do it. In my case, instead of slinging 600MB of data across the network (in the case of one of my clients), my archiving showed a reduction of like 75%, so only 25% of that was being pulled across the LAN instead. (They didn't need all the data from the beginning of the App's time...they just needed relevant/recent data.) I realize that with MySQL and other such RDBMSes this is a non-issue, but I wanted to ask the VFP-backend folks their approach to this for the sake of (hopefully) interesting discussion.
