Norton will not let me send EXE - Need help fast

I zip up an exe and send it to my customer as I have done for years. Last week, Norton would not let my customer unzip it. The "Run anyway" did not work. Norton deleted the exe. So I gave the exe a txt extension. Same thing. Did not even let us rename it to exe. It deleted is. We both have the latest version of Norton. Any suggestions? How to allow multiple forms to update the same record pointer in a table

I have a form that displays basic information from a table in a list box with its row source as table fields. When the user clicks a record in the list box another form comes up with complete detail for the selected record displayed in text boxes with the table fields as their control source. The detail screen allows previous and next choices that move the record pointer. There is also an exit button to return to the previous screen. Both forms are modal and use the default data session What do I need to do to have both screens use the same record pointer? Surely I don't need to pass a record number between screens? Import/Export with CSV

VFP 9 breakpoints

Hi Foxgang. I think I mentioned this before. Often I want to debug and put a breakpoint in. It starts debug screen ok but does not stop at the breakpoint. However if earlier I put a set step on, it does. It’s really P’ing me off as it seems hit and miss. I do set resource off in config.fpw but I’m not convinced that is the issue. It’s making this good idea into a joke. VFP 9 fully loaded with SP’s. I can’t be the only one, can I? [NF] Xamarin assimilated by Microsoft

So, many years ago, Miguel de Icaza tried to create a .NET compatible environment in the open source environments with the Mono project. Somewhere along the way, the Ximian company running that project got bought by Novell, then shuffled off by Attachmate, then spun off as Xamarin (with $87,000,000 in venture capital funding) and now bought by Microsoft. http://www.zdnet.com/article/microsofts-xamarin-purchase-is-a-blunder/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mono_(software) Supposedly, the first targets (Linux and OS X) have been changed to IOS and Android. Is anyone using Ximian to write apps for phones? I know in the 80s and 90s, there was a popular business model around Microsoft that people would work for the company for a few years, leave and start a skunkworks project, and if they got significant buzz, get bought by MS and come back to work with a tidy little payoff, lather, rinse and repeat. [NF] Best format(s) to publish old PPT slides to the web

Not Fox, but kinda Fox. Google has started complaining about some of the older pages on my web site, which are *ancient* (1997, 98, 99) converted PPT files which MS Office helpfully converted into "state of the art" web pages that Google has decided it can no longer parse, and throws what they call "soft 404" pages: framed web pages that internally redirect, or non-standard HTML it will no longer parse. So, I'd like to open these files up and re-publish them, as a historical archive, not necessarily of any great value. The slides are pretty much curt outlines, where the questions are presented, but the answers were usually at the talk, and hopefully in the associated white paper. So, yeah, mixed feelings. Folks who saw the presentations might grin at seeing the old retro slides with funky themes. I would like to: -- publish the stuff on my website, so don't bother recommending Slideshare. -- preserve the graphical presentation, ideally in a responsive format (big on big screens, small on small screens) with simple (cursor keys?) and accessible navigation. -- offer a simple alternative view as text outline, likely one not-that-long page. -- valid HTML/CSS/JS of course. Here's an example: my 1998 presentation on HTML Help was converted by "Internet Assistant for Microsoft PowerPoint 97" view-source:http://www.tedroche.com/Present/1998/Dev-14/sld013.htm and makes pretty atrocious HTML (hey, it was 20 years ago, I did too!) the "main page" is http://www.tedroche.com/Present/1998/HTMLHelp.htm but that redirects to http://www.tedroche.com/Present/1998/HTMLHelp_files/error.htm with the laughably arrogant error message, "This presentation contains content that your browser may not be able to show properly. This presentation was optimized for more recent versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer. If you would like to proceed anyway, click here." Considering this was generated with PowerPoint 97 and I'm looking at it in Google Chromium 46, you gotta chuckle. I thought I could do this in LibreOffice, as it has a nice Web export wizard, but I'm getting a bizarre I/O error exporting media. Happy Friday, all, and permit me to vent a little steam... "How do I get X to do Y?" is a common question we see on this forum as well as others. (Trigger for this was actually a LUG posting, not here). The Original Poster (OP) fails to explain: - why they want to do this, - what their environment is (OS, #records, performance needed, etc.), - what they have tried as an alternative, - the bigger picture of how they got themselves painted into this corner, and what (ultimately) they *REALLY* need, which is not X to do Y but starting at A and end up at Y. I sympathize that a lot of posters have pulled out all their hair and are at the last resort, but that's no excuse for taking it out on the unpaid volunteers here to help. We geeks often make the bad assumption that everyone knows what we're talking about when we ask an 8-word question, but we can't really fill in "when I try this in MariaDB" or "on the web" or "using a Database Container with Stonefield Toolkit." I have spent a *LOT* of time answering questions online, starting with the Dartmouth Time-Sharing System in 1976 (happy anniversary to me!) and I need to cut back on annoying myself by asking "What are you seeing?" "What have you tried?" and "Have you looked at this: www.lmgtfy.com?q=HowDoIGetXToDoY"" If you don't post: "What I'm trying to Do" "What I tried" "What results I got" "What results I expected" "What my environment is" - relevant OS, hardware, LAN, infrastructure, data structures, size of the data, etc. then you're not going to get a useful answer. Garbage In, Garbage Out. (Also, you'll find, if you write the long post of the 5 What's I listed above, nine times out of ten you'll work out the solution. At least, it works for me.) It doesn't take any "extra" work at all to enable software that uses a smaller memory schema to work on an OS that can use larger memory schemas, as long as the OS is designed from the ground up not to isolate those schemas into separate silos. It was predictable at the time when Office 97 was released that eventually more addressable memory would be needed, so it could have been planned for at that time. In fact, OSes at that time could address locations on much larger hard drives than were available for sale. I don't think it magically takes fewer bits to record the location of something out beyond 4 GB a hard drive than it takes to record the location of something beyond 4 GB in memory. OSes are not designed that way as deliberate planned obsolescence, so vendors can extract more money from customers. There is no techical issue with this at all. Using console vs graphical software is a more difficult problem, but it's not the same as 16-bit vs 32-bit or 64-bit. As I noted in my previous reply, running software that is not "NT-aware" on later OSes does result in problems, many, but not all, of which can be corrected with registry hacks. 64-bit is not necessary or helpful for most line-of-business applications. Instead of trying to convince people to accept it as the default, it should be treated as a specialty option for specific uses, such as high-capacity servers. Ken Dibble www.stic-cil.org
