Google API for Geocoding ... Again

Fellow Gentlemen, I posted a request about doing geocoding requests to receive back a Lat/Long dataset for various addresses a few weeks ago and now find that Google do in fact provide a Geocoding service: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/geocoding/start The responses back from the requests are all JSON from a Java Script API run by Google. I have looked over Rick's Westwind site to try and get a start on using this method to get back a JSON response but seem to be getting nowhere fast. Anyone got any ideas on a simple & neat way of retrieving this data back using VFP programmatically? Either that or anyone know a free Geocoding site that would handle up to 100 name and address calls per day ideally by sending a text file and receiving one back which could be automated from the VFP end. Never even looked at Web services in anger before so it all seems a little baffling and terribly long winded at the moment unless I am missing something obvious. Note I don't want to have to drop into an intermediate program/language to accomplish this, if possible. Dave

[NF] Hardware vs Software Router/Firewall Recommendations

Hi folks, Looks like our "ancient" (2008) CISCO router has died. I would appreciate the benefit of your experience regarding hardware vs software routers/firewalls to help me evaluate replacement options. Our current network uses 1 GB switches and has about 150 machines, and there can be at least that many people simultaneously using the network and our 25 mbps synchronous internet connection (including people hooking into our internet from smart phones and tablets). Most servers, including the domain controller, are virtualized and we are using a SAN for storage (two identical Synology Linux NAS devices). We have a 10 GB switch for virtual server/storage connectivity. We do not host external (internet) email or websites on our network. We've had slow growth in the number of machines and users (+/- 5% per year) over the past decade. We've always used the NAT functionality of the CISCO to provide a firewall and we only rarely allow anything to punch through it. The main exception would be our RDP server, which is in frequent use by between 5 and 10 simultaneous connections. My understanding is that a software router/firewall running on an ordinary PC is likely to be slower than a dedicated hardware device. However, is the difference so significant for a network like mine as to rule out a cheaper software solution? Do you have preferences for specific devices or software packages? What do you all think? Malware in Fox2Bin on VFPX CodePlex

I tried to download Fox2Bin this morning, but both Chrome and Firefox warned me the file contained malware, so proceed with caution. VFP not remembering my environment

I have a machine with VFP on it that does not remember my environment. When I start VFP up, I am always told "The resource file is not valid" Whether I overwrite it with an empty on or not, this message always comes back up. Now, by environment, here are 2 examples: 1. I am working on a PRG. When I go back into the PRG, I am always at the top instead of at the exact line I left off at.2. When I Beautify a PRG, I always have to check Comments, Procedure, Do Case - they always go back to being unchecked. Wes Wilson, President ERW Custom Programming, Inc. Shortcut brings up Do? dialog when linked to VFP EXE

Here's a good one. I'm connecting to a client's terminal services machine via RDP and there's a shortcut on the desktop to run vRunFox.EXE on a mapped drive. When I click on the link, a "Do" dialog shows up and "No items match your search" until I change the dropdown from "Program (*.fxp)" to "Visual FoxPro Application (*.app, *.exe)" and click the EXE. Then it runs fine. Server: Windows Standard 2008 without Hyper-V U: drive is a share mapped from another machine. Shortcut is set to U:\CmdWindow\vRunFox.EXE Runtime is: Visual FoxPro 07.00.0000.9465 EXE Support Library for Windows Copying the folder to the local machine and clicking directly on the EXE starts the program as expected, without the dialog.
